See you on Monday, December 2!

Popular author Gordon Korman visited Flinn Middle School. He wrote his first book when he was in 7th grade & published it when he was in 9th grade! Gordon talked about how he wrote his first novel when he was only twelve — a four-month-long seventh-grade language arts assignment that produced THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING AT MACDONALD HALL, which was published by Scholastic when he was 14. Gordon talked about research, brainstorming, developing characters, dialogue, rewriting & revision, and humor. Flinn invited Gordon Korman to share his love of writing, his experience, and writing strategies to encourage students to become better writers themselves.

Social media post for today’s author visit 😁
Today, we had the incredible privilege of welcoming Gordon Korman to Falcon Country! 🦅🎉
Gordon shared his inspiring journey of publishing his first book in 7th grade, talked about the inspirations behind his amazing novels, and gave us an exclusive sneak peek by reading from his newest book, Faker! 📖🙌
Students who brought in their favorite Korman books even got them signed—what an unforgettable experience! 🖊️❤️
A HUGE thank you to Mrs. Andrus for organizing this fantastic event! 🥳 Your hard work made this day so special for our students!

Earlier today, Whitehead Elementary held a spirit day instead of a traditional Halloween celebration. Principal Randall & Assistant Principal Skaggs dressed as Gru & Bob from the Minion movies & asked all students & staff to join the fun by wearing yellow shirts & blue pants. Students were given paper minion goggles. After dismissal, the staff continued the mission & started building community with their neighbors next door at Flinn Middle School. They were able to pull off a sneak attack on Principal Schrank with the help from an ally inside.

Principal Appreciation Day: This annual recognition was first approved by Illinois' Governor in 1990. We took pictures of our principals at our 41 schools & asked students to draw them for us. Here are some of their works of art. Thank you all RPS 205 Principals!

Red Ribbon Week

Come join us!!

The Youth Story Ledger was held at Flinn Middle School. It’s an event where 6-12 grade students from Flinn, Marshall, West, and Auburn shared personal narratives with the community. These stories offer deep insights into their lives, experiences, & dreams, challenging negative biases & showcasing resilience, bravery, & intelligence. By sharing their stories, students empower themselves & foster understanding & empathy within our community. This year, the Youth Story Ledger was able to expand through a grant from the Golden Apple Foundation of Rockford.

Have a great day!
